WHAT STATE ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTION DID WITH АCT ON DENO GOLD MINING COMPANY EXAMINATION

As known, in 2010 the State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia conducted examinations in Deno Gold Mining Compаny. The press started talking about concealing precious and nonferrous metals, while the company’s reaction was that it didn’t agree with examination results and they need specifications. EcoLur learnt about the act drawn up due to examinations conducted. According to this act, the company didn’t present the following amounts of metals.

For the last quarter of 2000: Zn – 152,20 tons, Pb – 22, 7 tons, Au – 38,81 kg, Ag – 100 kg.

Besides, the committee said the company must settle debts on metals in the reporting period starting from the last quarter in 2009, which is as follows:
Quarter 4 of 2009:
Cu – 461,14 t, Zn – 2370,54 t, Pb – 187,34 t, Au – 295,42 kg, Ag – 4928,43 kg.
Quarter 1 of 2010:
Cu – 438,71 t, Zn – 2255,26 t, Pb – 179,28 t, Au – 281,05 kg, Ag – 4688,75 kg.
Quarter 2 of 2010:
Cu – 571,93 t, Zn – 2940,08 t, Pb – 232,35 t, Au – 360,39 kg, Ag – 6112,50 kg.
Quarter 3 of 2010:
Cu – 611,64 t, Zn – 3144,22 t, Pb – 248,48 t, Au – 391,83 kg, Ag – 6596,52 kg.
Positive difference in metals made up:
Quarter 4 of 2009:
Cu – 88,21 t, Zn – 578,36 t, Pb – 37,52 t, Au – 106,2 kg, Ag – 1703,38 kg.
Quarter 1 of 2010:
Cu – 153,58 t, Zn – 341,78 t, Pb – 22,13 t, Au – 76,92 kg, Ag – 1032,54 kg.
Quarter 2 of 2010:
Cu – 191,14 t, Zn – 979,12 t, Pb – 82,87 t, Au – 158,38 kg, Ag – 2305,05 kg.
Quarter 3 of 2010:
Cu – 223,65 t, Zn – 694,57 t, Pb – 22,83 t, Au – 114,73 kg, Ag – 1570,75 kg.

We didn’t deal with calculation of the total debt, as the act makes it clear these debts are not incidental, we speak about huge amounts of precious and nonferrous metals the company must pay for and in case of a default, huge fines will imposed on the company. Nevertheless, in accordance with the official data of the State Environmental Inspection, the violation of RA Law “On Environmental and Nature Management Fees” was recorded in the company and in this regard an administrative fine in the amount of 50,000 AMD was imposed.

In 2008 violations of Article 99 of Water Code of Armenia were recorded in the same company and an administrative fine in the amount of 150,000 AMD. In 2009 the Combine made the same violation and was fined in the amount of 100,000 AMD.
